Inspiring Finds for the Month

The theme for this month is Chaturanga and Shoulders

Week 1:

Meet your serratus!

There are 2 reasons I think it’s important that you know this muscle:

  1. It is believed that if the serratus anterior is weak, or not activated in chaturanga, it can create a winging of the scapula. If you read my blog, or read much about the safety of the shoulder joint you know why winging may be problematic.
  2. I think it’s SO helpful to visualize the muscle being used when lowering into chaturanga. Just being able to see the muscle can help you to engage it. The cue to push the floor away from you, or create a slight dome in the upper back activates the serratus.

Week 2:

Home traction for your spine:

If you don’t have wall ropes in your home and want an incredible way to get some length in your low back, Check out Rachel Krentzman’s at home DIY. It’s like having your own adjuster in downdog!

Week 4:

How to eliminate nerve pain in your arm

A lot of students come to class complaining of neck and shoulder pain. While we can never diagnose (as he also says in the video), we can suggest and incorporate a few of these stretches into a class. Especially if your focus is neck and shoulder relief! I use a strap instead of a towel for the scalene neck stretch. LOVE!
